There are several parts that could be the cause of the car shuddering, and the potential damage can vary greatly. If you recently got different wheels and tires, the car shuddering could be caused by the wheels and tires not being balanced correctly. Tire balancing is making sure the weight of the tire and wheel is. So, if you feel the tire shaking while you are driving, it may be an unbalanced tire. If you have confirmed that the new tires are properly balanced, but the car is still shuddering, be sure to check if the lugnuts are completely tightened, and make sure the tires are inflated to the correct air pressure. If you find that your tires are causing the shudder, you should have them checked out immediately.
If your vehicle shudders when you brake, that’s a pretty strong indicator that you might want to have your brakes looked at. The most likely reason for your steering wheel shudder is worn rotors. When you push down on the brake pedal, the brake pads compress against the brake rotors to create friction which will then stop your car. If you want smooth braking, you need a smooth rotor surface. A warped surface will cause vibrations when braking, kind of like how a brick road feels rougher than a highway. Other possible causes of the vibrating include stuck calipers or damaged shocks.
